We were busy working—emails flying, phones ringing, and the usual hum of office life filling the air—when someone spotted a little cat outside. She was small, with curious eyes and a quiet presence, just sitting there in the alley downstairs.

Turns out, her previous owner had moved away and left her behind. Abandoned. Forgotten. She didn’t meow or make a fuss; she just sat there, watching people come and go, as if she was waiting for someone to notice her.
And we did.At first, it was just someone bringing her food. Then another coworker brought her water. Before long, she started hanging around more and more, peeking into our office like she was deciding if we were worth trusting. It didn’t take long for all of us to fall for her.

One afternoon, as she curled up right by the door, we looked at each other and said, “Why not?” We didn’t need a big discussion—we all just knew. This little cat was one of us now.
We named her Mimi.
Mimi wasted no time settling in. She claimed a sunny spot by the window as her throne, stretched out on desks like she owned the place, and discovered her favorite hobby—getting into trouble. She paws at keyboards mid-typing, knocks pens off tables, and sneaks into bags looking for snacks. Once, she even sent an unfinished email. To a client. (We had some explaining to do after that one!)But no one minds. She’s Mimi. She’s our little troublemaker.
She’s also our stress relief. Whenever someone’s having a bad day, Mimi seems to know. She’ll quietly wander over, plop herself down next to them, and just be there. If she’s in the mood, she’ll nuzzle your hand or give you that slow, content cat blink that somehow makes everything feel a little bit better.
She’s the reason we smile during busy afternoons and the reason we pause to take breaks. Seeing her curled up in a chair or chasing a paperclip reminds us that sometimes, it’s okay to slow down.
In a funny way, Mimi saved us as much as we saved her.
